Serving tanks

Put a beer in a serving tank, log its level, and how its gallons count toward stock.

Inventory › Kegs › KegsBrewhouse and Reserve

A serving tank holds beer you pour or package straight from. Put a beer in one and its gallons count toward that beer's stock, alongside its kegs or its hand count.

Where tanks show

On the Kegs tab, under the places table, Serving tanks has a card per tank: what it's holding, about how full it is, and when it was last read. Any tank holding a beer shows here, whatever its type, because it counts toward stock either way. Empty ones read Fill tank.

Add and edit the tanks themselves in Tank Schedule; see Tank schedule. Set the type to Serving Tank for the vessels you pour from. Only serving tanks can be filled from here, and a tank holding a beer can't be changed to another type until it's emptied.

Put a beer in a tank

Open the tank

Click its card. An empty tank says Fill it from the ⋯ menu when a beer goes in.

Fill tank

From the … menu choose Fill tank and pick the beer under Holding.

Enter the level, if you have it

Level now (optional), in gallons. Leave it blank if you haven't read the sight glass; the level stays unknown until you log one. Save.

To switch the tank to another beer, choose Change beer; both beers get a fresh stock reading. To empty it, choose Empty tank.

Log a level

Every level you enter is a reading, dated and kept. Between readings the tank projects a decline at the beer's pace, so its number stays roughly right until you read the sight glass again.

Open Log level

Click Log level on the tank's page, or on its row under Where it is on the beer's Stock tab.

Enter the gallons

Under Level. Leave Just now if you're reading it as you type, or choose An earlier time and pick when it was read.

Log level

A reading for the past goes into the history at that time. The tank's level only changes if it's the newest thing that happened.

Two things move the level on their own:

  • Filling a keg with that beer drains the tank by the keg's size, on the day of the fill, so packaging from your own tank doesn't inflate your stock.
  • Emptying the tank ends its history for that beer at zero.

Fix a reading

The tank's page shows its Level chart and a History of every reading, keg fill and change of beer. Click a reading to change its level, time or note, or delete it. The beer's stock history re-derives from that point on. Keg fills can't be edited from the tank; change them on the keg.

Counting kegs alongside a tank

A beer can pour from a tank while its kegs are counted by hand. The tank's gallons are counted for you, and the count asks for Kegs on hand (not the tank). See Count by hand. Put a place in stock for the beer and its kegs are counted for you too.

Where the gallons show

  • In the beer's stock, out date and pace: tank gallons are stock like any other.
  • Under Where it is on the beer's Stock tab, with when the gauge was read. A tank not read in three days or more gets an amber dot.
  • On Activity, as Read BT1: 120 gal of ….

If a tank holds the beer but its gallons aren't in the count, the beer's Check your data says so, with a button to log its level. See Why this date.

Logging a level is on the web

The iPhone app shows a tank's last reading on a beer's Stock tab, but levels are logged on the web.
