Scan kegs on iPhone

Look up one keg with the PintDeck Business for iPhone app, or scan a whole pile and act on all of it at once.

Brewhouse and ReservePintDeck Business for iPhone

The PintDeck Business for iPhone app reads the QR code on a keg and opens that keg. Scan one to see what it is and where it goes, or scan a pile into a basket and record what happened to all of them in one step.

What it scans

Each keg's QR code holds one of its ID numbers. Print them from the keg's page on the web (… › QR codes) or share them from the keg's page in the app. The camera reads QR codes only. If a label won't scan, type the number instead. Stickers from a label printer or another keg app work too, as long as each one is different; see Keg QR stickers.

ID numbers ignore leading zeros, so a keg stamped 0123 answers to a scan of 123 and the other way round.

The first time, the app asks for the camera. If you said no, turn camera access on for PintDeck in your iPhone's Settings.

Look up one keg

Open the scanner

Tap the QR button labeled Scan a tag: it's in the Cellar toolbar, in the search field on Today, beside Find a keg in Cellar › Kegs, and on the search screen.

Point it at the keg

Or type the number under Or type the number and tap Look up.

Read the result

The sheet shows the keg's label and size, its beer (or Clean keg or Dirty keg), its state and where it is, and a note on what to do next.

The buttons are Open keg, Move and Scan next. Filling, emptying and cleaning happen on the keg's own page, under Open keg.

An unknown code says No keg has the tag or name … New kegs go in with Scan several.

Scan a pile at once

Start Scan several

On the scanner, tap Scan several kegs, then choose. In Cellar › Kegs › Every keg, the … menu has Scan several too.

Scan each keg

Each one drops into the basket, listed under In the basket. Switch to Search to add a keg by its label or ID number. Swipe a row to remove it.

Tap Next

The app asks What happened to these 6 kegs? Pick one; the likely one is marked Most likely.

Confirm

Pick the beer or the destination if it asks, and confirm. The kegs stay in the basket, so another action can follow.

ChoiceWhat it does to every keg in the basket
They emptiedGoes dirty (kicked, waiting for a clean), whatever it was before.
They were cleanedGoes back to clean, and its beer is cleared.
They were filledGoes full with the beer you pick, dirty and already-full kegs included.
They movedGoes to the place you pick. Kegs already there stay put.
They read as a beerNow holds the beer you pick. Its state stays as it is.
Reserved for canningIs held for canning. Full ones leave the pourable stock without moving the pace.
DumpedIs marked dumped. Full ones write off their beer without counting as a pour.

Whatever you pick applies to every keg in the basket, so a mixed pile is fine. Filling or cleaning a keg PintDeck still had as full can ask later whether that beer was poured; see A full keg that's refilled or cleaned.

They moved works out what the move does to stock from where the kegs went, the same as Move kegs. After any action, kegs that changed show a Changed badge with their old and new state, beer or place.

If you leave with kegs you haven't acted on, the app asks whether to Choose an action, Discard scan or Keep scanning.

Kegs PintDeck doesn't know yet

Scan a code no keg has, and the basket shows a banner, Not in PintDeck yet, with Add them. That opens New kegs, with each new code as a row.

Set the defaults

Pick the size, what's in them (empty, or a beer) and where they are. New scans start with these; a row you edit keeps its own answers.

Scan the rest

Each fresh code becomes a row, named after its code. Codes already in PintDeck are skipped.

Create

Each keg is added with its code as its ID number, filled if you picked a beer, and dropped into the basket.
