Burn rate breaks

Leave a festival, a closure, a promotion or a beer taken off tap out of the burn rate, for one beer or all of them.

The burn rate is how fast a beer has been pouring, and it's what sets the out date. Most weeks are ordinary, but some aren't: a festival pours three times the usual, a closed week pours nothing. Left in, one odd stretch moves the date for weeks afterward.

A break takes a stretch of days out of the burn rate. The days don't count toward the pace, and depending on the reason, neither does the beer poured during them. Stock still goes down as usual; a break only changes how fast PintDeck thinks the beer goes.

What a break has

  • A name, like Oktoberfest weekend. It shows on every chart the break covers, so anyone reading the chart knows why those days are shaded.
  • A reason: Festival, Event, Promotion, Closed, Off tap or Other. Closed and Off tap mean nothing poured, so PintDeck keeps the beer measured on either side and drops only the days. The others drop the beer poured during the break as well.
  • Days: the first and last day, in your brewery's own time zone. A break started from one beer can instead Keep going until that beer is back on a tap.
  • Beers: All tracked beers (including ones you add later), All tracked beers except…, or Only some beers. A break for one beer only shows on that beer.

Add a break

Start it

Click Add a break at the top of On hand, or in a beer's row menu. On a beer's page, use … › Add a break…, or the chart's menu › Pick days for a break and drag across the days. Clicking a week in Weekly pace, or unticking a stretch in Details ›, starts one with those days filled in.

Change or delete a break

Every break is listed in Settings › General, under Burn rate breaks. Search them, filter by beer, show Ongoing & recent, Past or All, and edit or delete from the row. Deleting asks first; those days count toward the burn rate again.

On a beer's chart you can drag a break's edges to move its first or last day, or click its name to edit it. A beer's page lists its breaks under Breaks.

Taking a beer off tap

When you clear a tap, PintDeck asks Is it done pouring for a while?

  • Take a break until it's back on a tap: the out date waits, and the days off tap stay out of the burn rate. Putting it on any tap ends the break.
  • Keep the burn rate running: for a beer that's still going out elsewhere, as kegs to accounts or as cans.

A beer's … menu has the same choice: Take a break until it's back on, or End the break while one is running.

Kegs held back for a release

There's no break for kegs you're saving. Keep them at a place that isn't in stock for the beer and move them on release day; see Places and stock.
