Levels and dues

Free and paid membership levels, who can join each one, taking dues by card or by hand, renewals, and what happens when a member lapses.

Customers › Club › Levels & perksEvery planRolling out

A level is a way of being a member: Members for free, Founders at $75 a year. Each level has its own price and its own perks, on top of the perks every level gets. Taster has one level, Brewhouse two, and Reserve as many as you like.

The level cards

Levels & perks opens with a card for each level: its price, how many members are active and lapsed, how many perks it earns (its own, plus the ones for every level), how dues are taken, and which ways in are open. Invite only means none are.

Click Add a level to make one, or Edit level on a card to change it. Levels are in Club settings too, under Membership levels.

Add a level

Name and price

Give it a Name. Leave Price blank for a free level. A paid level also needs Renews: Yearly or Monthly.

Say what it gets them

What it gets them is shown on the join page, as in 10% off pours · birthday pint · members-only releases. The perks you add are what actually gets handed out, so keep the two in step.

Save

Click Add level. Then use Add perk, on the card or in the level's sheet, to give it perks of its own.

Who can join a level

How people join this level has a choice for each way in. Each starts on Same as the club, which follows Club settings and keeps following it if you change the club later. Pick Link: in person to keep a level off the join page: it's listed there under Also available at the bar, but nobody can pick it. Register: off does the same at the register.

Turn off or delete a level

What happens
Turn offNobody new can join it. Everyone in it stays, with their perks. Turn on opens it again.
DeleteRemoves it for good. Only possible once nobody active or lapsed is on it, so move its members first.

A level that's turned off still counts toward your plan's number of levels.

To move a member to another level, edit them and change Level. They keep their member number.

Take dues by card

With a Stripe or Square account ready to take cards, people can buy a paid level on your join page and are charged on the level's schedule. The money goes to your own account, not through PintDeck. Connect one in Settings › Payments (see Payments), or from the Paid memberships card on the Club's Register section.

  • With Square, the card form is right on the join page.
  • With Stripe, joining opens a secure payment page. The membership is made once they've paid, so a checkout someone walks away from leaves nothing behind.

Either way, a paid sign-up needs an email address. With both accounts ready, new members pay through the one picked under Tickets and club dues in Settings › Payments. Members already paying keep paying where they started.

Without either, paid levels show on the join page under Also available at the bar, and you sign those members up yourself.

Record dues taken by hand

When you add or edit a member on a paid level, a Payment box appears:

FieldWhat to enter
How they paidIn person or Comped, or Not paid yet.
AmountWhat they paid.
Renews onWhen their membership is up.

Card payments through Square or Stripe fill these in themselves; they can't be picked here.

Renewals and lapsed members

Members paying by card renew on their own, and Renews follows their payments. If a card fails, Card failed shows on the member, in the Dues column on Members, and as a line on the Overview: their next renewal won't go through until it's fixed.

Each night, any active member whose Renews date is more than two days past is marked Lapsed. That includes dates you typed in. A lapsed member:

  • keeps the perks they already hold, which your staff can still redeem in PintDeck
  • earns no new perks
  • stops getting perks at a connected Square register

A card renewal makes them Active again. For dues taken by hand, set a new Renews on date and choose Mark active on the member.

Leaving the club doesn't stop card dues

Marking a member as left, or deleting their record, doesn't cancel dues they pay through Square or Stripe. Cancel the subscription in your Square or Stripe account too. They keep the time they paid for, then lapse.

A member's Dues tab

Open a member and choose Dues to see their level, How they pay (Charged on your Square account, Charged through Stripe, or what you recorded), the last amount, when they renew, and a history of every charge, failure and cancellation. Dues taken in person don't appear in the history.
