Square at the register

Connecting Square so member perks come off at your own register, matching members to Square customers, buy-ten cards, signing people up in Square, and free pours for a new beer.

Customers › Club › RegisterEvery planRolling out

With your Square account connected, member perks come off at your own register, so staff never leave Square to look someone up. Square also counts what members buy, for buy-ten cards, and a bartender can sign someone up without opening PintDeck. Only admins and the owner can connect it.

If the Square card says Square is not switched on for PintDeck yet, get in touch with us.

Set it up

Connect your Square account

On the Club's Register section, click Connect Square in settings, then Connect Square in Settings › Register. Square asks you to approve PintDeck.

Point us at your beer

Back on Register, Point us at your beer asks which Square category your beers are in. Perks apply to anything in it, so a rotating tap list takes care of itself. Merch is optional. Click Save.

PintDeck adds its own discounts and customer groups to your Square account. It never changes your items or categories, and disconnecting removes everything it added.

Turn on a perk

Go to Perks and turn one on. A new perk can take a few minutes to reach your register; reopening the Square app speeds it up.

Which perks reach the register

Free item, Guest pass, Percent off, Amount off and Merch perks come off at the register. Early access and Custom perks are always redeemed in PintDeck. The perks list gets an At the register column:

StatusMeans
Live at registerIt comes off for members who hold it.
Setting upSaved, and on its way to your register. Give it a few minutes.
Needs attentionIt can't reach the register. Open it to see why.
PintDeck onlyAn early access or custom perk, redeemed in PintDeck.
Not at registerIt's turned off.

A perk Square takes off is recorded in the ledger as At the register. Perks stop coming off at the register when a member lapses; your staff can still redeem them in PintDeck.

How a perk comes off the ticket

With Square connected, the last step of New perk has an At the register side:

ChoiceWhat happens
By itself, every timeIt comes off the moment the member is on the ticket. Right for a standing discount.
Your bartender taps itA coupon on their Square profile with an Apply button. They can say no and keep it for next time.

What one of these is worth is required for a free item or a guest pass, and for 100% off: without it, four beers on one ticket would all be free. For other perks it's Most it can take off, and optional. What it applies to is Your beer or Your merch, the categories you picked. The line under these says, in a sentence, what the perk will do at the till.

Members at the register

A perk only reaches the till for members PintDeck can find among your Square customers, by email or phone. Members at the register says how many are matched. PintDeck keeps looking every few minutes; Check now looks straight away. Adding an email or phone to a member helps.

Sometimes it needs you:

  • Two Square customers look like one member, usually a phone number typed twice. Pick This one, or Neither of these.
  • A member is on your list twice, sharing an email or phone with another member. PintDeck leaves both alone rather than guess, so neither gets perks at the register until only one of them has that email or phone.

Buy-ten cards

A perk earned by drinks bought counts from your register, so it works for members who never open an app. Pick Something they earn, then Drinks bought, and set Drinks it takes. It counts what they buy in your beer category, or your merch category if the perk applies to merch.

The card refills: every time they reach the number, they earn another. Earned ones are handed out once a night. How close each member is shows in the Card column on Members, on their Perks tab (4 more to a free one), and to the member themselves.

Sign someone up at the register

With The register on in Club settings, Signing someone up at the bar lists a Square customer group for each level open to it, with its exact name. To sign someone up:

Add them in Square

Add them as a customer in Square, with their name and a phone number or email.

Put them in the group

Add them to the group for the level they want. Their perks start straight away. No app required, and no account.

They show on Members as Signed up at the register. A new level's group appears in Square within a few minutes of opening it to the register.

If someone can't be signed up, they stay in the group and are listed under Couldn't sign these people up, with the fix:

ReasonWhat it means
Two people matchMore than one member already has this phone or email.
Club is fullThe club is at its member cap. Raise it in Club settings, or wait for a spot.
Level is closedThe level isn't taking sign-ups at the register. Open it again if you meant to.
Nothing to go onThe customer has no name, phone or email in Square. Add one.

Fix the reason and they go through on their own; nothing needs redoing.

Put a beer on for the club

To give members a free pour of a beer that's new on tap, open ⋯ on Levels & perks and choose Put a beer on. The beer has to be matched to its register buttons first, under Beers at the register in Settings › Register.

Pick the Beer, Who gets it, how many days they can Claim within, and What one pour is worth, then click Announce it. Every active member it covers gets a free pour straight away, and the register takes off one pour of that beer and no more. When the window closes, the perk retires itself.

Disconnect

Disconnect is at the bottom of the Square card, here or in Settings › Register. Perks stop coming off at your register, and everything PintDeck added to your Square account is removed. Your members, perks and history stay in PintDeck. Members paying dues through Square have their renewals canceled; they keep the time they paid for.

If PintDeck loses access from Square's side, the card says Needs attention and perks stop reaching the register until you click Reconnect Square.
