Alternative items

Wine, cider, cocktails, food, soft drinks and merch on your menus, with categories, a price and label, status and an image.

Products › Alternative ItemsEvery planTaps › Other drinks on iPhone

Alternative items are everything on your menus that isn't beer: wine, cider, cocktails, food, soft drinks, merch. They're simpler than beers: a name, a category, one price, a status and an image.

They go on menus the same way beers do, through sections, but in sections of their own: a section holds beers or items, never both. To show both on one menu, place a beer section and an item section side by side.

Add an item

Open Add item

On Products › Alternative Items, click Add item. A brand-new tab also offers Import a list and Add one item on the empty page.

Fill in what you need

Only Item Name is required. The form has four parts, listed down the left:

PartFields
BasicsItem Name, Featured (highlight on menu), Category, Description.
PricingPrice and Price Label. Leave the price blank to hide it from menus.
AvailabilityStatus.
ImageUpload, drag in, or Choose from library.

Add Item

Add Item saves it. Editing later, the button is Update Item, and Discard Changes throws away what you changed.

Categories

A category groups items: Wine, Cocktails, Food. In the Category box, type a name that isn't there yet and pick Create to make it. Each category in the list has a delete button; deleting one asks first, and its items become uncategorized. Nothing else about them changes.

Sections can pick items by category, and the items table can group by it.

Price and price label

An item has one price. The Price Label goes beside it, for the size or unit: Glass, Bottle, 8 pieces, per glass. For a wine sold by the glass and the bottle, add two items, one for each.

Status

An item's status is one of Available, Coming Soon, Limited, Seasonal, Temporarily Out, Sold Out or Archived. Menus that show status print it, and sections can pick items by it.

The item's page

Click an item to open its page. Across the top: its Status, Price (with its label), how many menus it Shows on, and its Category. Then:

  • On every menu: the image, name, category, description, price, size and status. Edit opens the form.
  • Stock: what the Stock tab counts for this item, when a stock item is linked to it. Open Stock goes there.
  • Where it shows: the TV, print and web menus showing it, and the ones leaving it out, with Add it or Show it, as on a beer's page. See How beers reach your menus.

The ⋯ at the top has Delete.

The items table

The table starts with Image, Item, Category, Price, Status and Shows on. Customize adds Featured, Description, Price label, Sort order, Created and Updated, and has Group by category.

Search items… looks through names, descriptions, categories and price labels. Category, Status, Featured and Recently updated are quick filters, and + Filter, Filters and Presets work as they do on the Beers list.

Delete an item

From the item's ⋯, or the ⋯ on its row, choose Delete and confirm. To delete several, tick them and click Delete selected. Deleting can't be undone. Unlike beers, items can't be changed in bulk: open each to edit it.

Bring in a list

⋯ › Import items… brings in a drinks and food list from a spreadsheet. Categories come along, and new ones are made once you confirm them. See Bringing in your lists.

On the iPhone

In PintDeck Business for iPhone, items are Other drinks: a pane on Taps, grouped by category with the price and its label, and the full list under Manage › Other drinks. The item form has the name, Category (with New category), price and label, Status, a photo and a description.
