How beers reach your menus

How a beer gets onto a TV, print or web menu, how to read Where it shows, and how fast a change lands on the wall.

You don't add a beer to a TV. A menu is built from sections (in Menu Builder › Sections), and a section decides which beers it holds. Change the beer once and every menu showing it follows.

Sections pick the beers

A section is either a beer section or an alternative-item section, never both. Put a beer section and an item section side by side on a menu if you want both.

How a section picks its beers decides what happens when a beer changes:

SectionPicksWhen a beer changes
ManualThe beers you choose, in your order.Nothing moves. A new beer isn't in it until you add it, and a beer you take off tap stays until you take it out.
AutomaticEvery beer that matches its rules: tap number, status, style, featured, price and so on.A beer joins or leaves as soon as it starts or stops matching.

A menu can also hide one beer from a section, on that menu only.

Where it shows

Every beer's page has a Where it shows panel on Overview. It lists:

  • PintDeck: whether the beer is on PintDeck Taste. See Beers on PintDeck Taste.
  • Every TV, Print and Web menu that shows the beer, with the section that brings it there. Open opens that menu in its studio.
  • Every menu with beer sections that leaves the beer out, and the fix:
    • Add it: none of the menu's sections take the beer. It opens Sections, where you add the beer to one, or change its rules.
    • Show it: a section takes the beer, but this menu hides it. Only the menu's own studio can show it again, so Show it opens it there.

If no menu has a beer section yet, it says so. The Shows on fact at the top of the page, and the Shows on column on the Beers list, count the menus showing the beer.

How fast a change lands

  • TV menus and web embeds update on their own when you save a change to a beer, an item or a section. Nobody needs to touch the screen.
  • Print menus show the change the next time you print. A sheet that's already printed stays as it was.

A change to a beer's name, prices, ABV, description or image shows wherever the menu's design shows that field.

Kicked a keg? Check the section as well as the status

Taking a beer off its tap, or tagging it Sold out on menus, changes the beer. Whether it leaves a menu depends on the section: an automatic section that only takes beers on a tap lets it go; a manual section keeps it until you remove it there.

On the iPhone

A beer's page in PintDeck Business for iPhone has the same Where it shows, and opens a TV menu, print menu or section right there. Changing a beer's status shows Where this changes first: the sections it would join or leave.
