Archive or delete a beer

The difference between archiving and deleting a beer, how to do each, how to bring an archived beer back, and why some beers can only be archived.

Most of the time you want to archive a beer, not delete it. Archiving tidies it out of your list and keeps everything about it. Deleting removes it for good.

Archive a beer

Select it on the Beers list

Tick the box beside the beer (or several).

Set its status to Archived

Click Edit Selected, then Set Status › Archived.

The beer leaves the list. The count under the filters (3 archived) shows archived beers again when you click it. They're also offered under A past beer when you add a beer, so a seasonal can come back with everything filled in.

Check its menus first

Archiving doesn't take a beer out of a section you picked by hand. Before you archive a beer that's on a menu, look at Where it shows on its page and take it out of those sections. See How beers reach your menus.

Bring an archived beer back

On the Beers list, click the archived count to show them, tick the beer, then Edit Selected › Set Status and pick Available (or another status). It's back in the list, with its history.

Delete a beer

Open the ⋯ at the end of the beer's row and choose Delete, then Delete again to confirm. To delete several, tick them and click Delete selected.

If the beer is on PintDeck Taste but nobody has logged it yet, the dialog says so: deleting removes it from Taste completely.

Why some beers can only be archived

Once a drinker logs a beer on PintDeck Taste, that check-in, and the card they earned for it, belong to them. Deleting the beer would erase both, so PintDeck won't.

  • Click Delete on a beer like that and the dialog becomes Archive this beer instead, with how many people logged it. Archive does what you most likely wanted: it comes off your taplist, and the page stays up.
  • Delete selected with one of those beers ticked deletes nothing, and names the beers holding it up. Untick them to delete the rest.

The PintDeck column on the Beers list (from Customize) shows which beers are on Taste and how many people logged each, so you can tell before you try.

On the iPhone

In PintDeck Business for iPhone, archive a beer from its status: tap the status on Overview and pick Archived. Pick another status to bring it back. Delete beer is at the foot of the beer's Overview, and Select beers on the Beers list deletes several.

Alternative items

Items have no archive lock: deleting one removes it, after a confirmation. To keep an item but take it off rule-filled sections, set its status instead. See Alternative items.
