Brew day on iPhone and Apple Watch

Run a brew day from PintDeck Business for iPhone, with alarms on the lock screen, a Live Activity, no signal needed, and the Apple Watch on your wrist.

Brewhouse and ReservePintDeck Business for iPhone and Apple Watch

The phone runs the same brew day as the web, step by step, on autopilot or by hand. It rings for every step and addition with the phone locked, keeps going with no signal, and shows the day on the lock screen. An Apple Watch runs it from your wrist. How autopilot, steps and finishing work is in Brew day.

Start a brew day

Open Cellar, tap + and choose Brew day. The page lists the brew days going now, Brew without a recipe, and your recipes by beer. You can also start from Start brew day on a batch's page or a recipe's page. Today lists the brews planned for today and tomorrow.

Start brew day asks two things, then Start now:

  • Which batch: starting from a recipe lists its planned batches, and picks the one due within three days. A new batch brews one that isn't planned.
  • How it runs: Autopilot or Manual. You can switch any time.

Brew without a recipe asks which beer, and a name if you like. You get the usual day (heat, mash, sparge, boil, whirlpool, chill) and add steps and timers as you go.

A brew day started on the web opens on hold. Start brew day starts it.

The brew day screen

  • The board at the top shows the step and its clock, with −5, +5, Skip and Pause (Resume while paused).
  • Autopilot switches between autopilot and manual.
  • Due now lists additions and checks whose minute has come, with Skip and Done (Added for an addition). Coming up shows what's next.
  • Steps lists the day. Tap one to Start now, mark it Done, Skip it, give it −5 min, +5 min or +15, take it back with Not done yet, or Bring it back if skipped. When it really happened › Change sets its times. Add a step after this adds one there.
  • Readings › Add: Temp, Gravity, pH, Volume or Note.
  • What happened lists every tap. Undo takes one back, and Redo puts an undone one back.

The bar at the bottom has Add a timer, Log a reading and Add a step, and one button for what's next: Start · Heat to boil, End now · Boil, Done · Mash in, Pick it back up or Finish brew day. After a tap, Undo shows above it for a few seconds.

Add a step asks What, How it ends (After a set time, When I say it's done or A moment) and how long, then Add it. A new timer has quick picks (Hop check, Stir mash, Check sparge, Sanitize).

Several brew days can run at once. Switch between them with the names under the title, or start one with ⋯ › Start another brew.

With no signal

Every tap is saved on the phone first, so the day keeps moving with no signal, autopilot included. The screen says No signal. 2 changes are saved on this phone and go up when you're back., and they do.

Alarms and the lock screen

The phone rings for each step and addition, even locked and asleep. A timed step ending offers +5 min, a step or addition that needs you offers Done, and a timer offers Dismiss, right on the notification.

The Live Activity on the lock screen shows the step and its clock, the day's progress and when it should be done, what's due (Due now: Add Citra) and what's next (Next: …, or Then, by itself: … when autopilot will start it). Its button fits the moment: Start, Done, +5 min, Added or Resume. When every step is done it says Finish it in PintDeck.

In the app's Settings, Reminders & alerts has two switches under Brew days:

SwitchWhat it does
Follow brew days on this phoneA brew day started on the web or another phone shows on this lock screen and moves with it. Your own brew days always do.
Ring like an alarmSteps, additions and timers ring through silent mode and Focus, full screen, with Done or +5 min on the alarm. The phone asks permission first.

Finish

Finish brew day asks Into which fermenter: the planned one, another fermenter, or Decide later when none was planned. Finish and log the batch puts it in Fermenting. If steps are left, it warns you first.

Brew day done then shows how long mash in to knockout took, with the OG, Pre-boil gravity and volume Into the tank. If the batch measured differently from the beer's listed numbers, pick which to update, or Keep as listed. Menus and TVs show the listed numbers, so nothing changes until you choose.

⋯ › Abandon brew day ends it without brewing: the batch goes back to planned, or is canceled if it was started here. The day's log is kept.

Apple Watch

The watch app installs with the iPhone app and signs in through the phone: open PintDeck Business on your iPhone and the watch picks it up. It shows any brew day going, wherever it was started; with several, pick one from Brew days.

A brew day has three pages, like the Workout app:

PageWhat's on it
MiddleThe step, its clock and the day's progress, with the same button the lock screen shows, and what's next.
Swipe rightControls: Pause (or Resume, Start day), Skip, five minutes more or less, End now for a timed step, and Undo.
Swipe leftDue now (tap to tick one off), Timers with Dismiss, the steps Ahead, and Additions soon.

The watch taps your wrist when the day moves on by itself or something comes due. It keeps working with no signal and sends your taps when it's back. With the phone locked, the phone's alarms show on the watch, and Done, +5 min or Dismiss there works too.

Starting and finishing a brew day stay on the iPhone: when every step is done, the watch says Finish it on your iPhone: pick the fermenter there.
