Cellar tasks

The dry hops, gravity readings, cold crash, transfer and packaging after brew day, ticking them off, and what happens when one runs late.

Once a batch is fermenting, its cellar tasks say what to do and when, read off its plan. Tick them off as you go: a crash or transfer moves the batch along, and packaging finishes it. If one happens on another day than planned, the rest of the plan moves to match.

The tasks

TaskWhenComes from
Dry hop: Citra, MosaicThe day the recipe sets. If it doesn't, counted back from the end of primary by the hop's contact time. Each dry-hop addition in the recipe
Start the cold crashThe day the crash starts, with its temperature and length (Down to 34°F for 2 days)A cold crash step
Transfer to BT1The day it leaves the fermenter. Transfer to the brite when no brite is booked.Carbonating in a brite

You'll find them:

  • On the batch's Cellar tab (on the iPhone, the batch page's Cellar section). A planned batch lists them as upcoming.
  • In Needs you on the Tank Schedule, when they're due today or late.
  • On the calendar and Today, on their day. Gravity readings stay on the batch.
  • In Brewing on the iPhone's Today.

Tick them off

Done marks a task done today. When it happened on another day, click the arrow next to Done, pick the day and click Done that day. Skip a task you won't do. Undo opens a task again. Show done brings back the ones you've finished.

A task can't be ticked off before the batch is brewed, or for a day that hasn't happened yet.

What a task changes

  • Start the cold crash or a Transfer puts the batch in Conditioning. The transfer also ends the fermenter booking that day.
  • Package marks the batch Packaged and frees its tanks.
  • Undo on any of these puts the batch and its tanks back exactly as they were.

When a task runs late

A crash or transfer done on another day than planned moves the plan from there. Crash two days late and the stage before it ran two days longer: the transfer, the brite booking, the ready day and packaging all move two days later.

If that runs into the next batch booked in the tank, PintDeck keeps your change, since the beer has already moved, and tells you: Start the cold crash moved the plan. FV1 has Cutline IPA in it Oct 20 – Nov 3. The overlap shows as a red line on the tank schedule; move one of the batches there.

Gravity readings

On the batch's Cellar tab, under Fermentation, type the Gravity and, if you like, Temp °F, then Add reading. The chart shows the readings and, as they come in, where gravity is heading.

A reading ticks off the gravity check it falls in, from the day before it's due until the next one. Only the current check asks for a reading: a missed one isn't owed later, and none ask once the beer has crashed, transferred or been packaged. Set Gravity check every to 0 in How you brew to stop them.

When the gravity stops dropping, type the FG in the batch's Measured panel. The ABV works itself out from the OG and FG.
